Miles qualified from Kings College School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1988, completed GPVTS training in North West London then worked in rural primary care in Newfoundland, Canada before becoming a partner in Ilkeston, Derbyshire from 1993-2005. He supported a 24 hour Minor Injuries Unit and GP managed beds at the local Community Hospital, as well as a Director of East Derbyshire Out of Hours Co-operative. He left the NHS to help set up and run the Out of Hours Primary Care service on Guernsey, Channel Islands 2005-07. He returned to the NHS to become a partner in Stamford, Lincolnshire in 2008. Chair of NHS South Lincolnshire CCG from 2012-14, then Clinical Director for Emergency and Medicine at Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals Foundation Trust part time while continuing as a GP. He has now returned to full time primary care and is Chief Medical Officer for Lakeside Healthcare, one of the 14 NHS Multispeciality Community Provider Vanguard sites and now the largest primary care organisation in the NHS covering patients in parts of Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
