Maternity and children - News

The East Midlands Children’s Specialised Health Services website came from a need to showcase the range of specialised health services available within the East Midlands region. It was noted that some children are still referred outside of the region for services that are available at or close to their local hospital. The website aims to provide information on the type of service provided, the location of the service and how to make a referral. It also provides a signposting function to patient level information on certain conditions and access to guidelines written by clinicians in the East Midlands region.
Recommendations of the National Maternity Review - led by Baronness Cumberlege - were published last week.

The independent review praised the quality and outcomes of maternity services, although found variations across the country and the need to focus on stillbirths.

Its recommendations included:
  • personalised care
  • continuity of carer
  • improved perinatal care
  • multi-professional working
  • working across boundaries
