Maternity and children - Achievements

  • Developed paediatric pdfemergency appendicectomy commissioning guidance, with Royal College of Surgeons, to ensure 12,000 children per year in England receiving this treatment get high quality care
  • Developed pdforchidopexy commissioning guidance, with Royal College of Surgeons, supporting 6,000 elective orchidopexies for undescended testes per year in England
  • Completed a multi-professionally developed pdfcommissioning guidance document for management of the paediatric acute scrotum in conjunction with the Royal College of Surgeons. This has NICE accreditation, and is now available for national use in commissioning
  • pdfMaternity services specification established minimum standards of care to support over 50,000 East Midlands births per year
  • Coordinated detailed review of the provision of women’s and children’s services in Lincolnshire to support commissioning decisions
  • Audited children’s palliative care services in the East Midlands and produced a pdfsubsequent report giving recommendations to commissioners
  • Produced pdfguidelines for the management of pregnant women with a raised body mass index which local services have adopted as best practice
  • Established a panel of 31 senior multi-professional clinicians to provide expert review of and contribute to investigations of serious incidents in maternity and neonatal care
  • Worked in partnership with the 5 East Midlands local maternity systems (LMS) aligned to Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships to provide clinical input and expertise into maternity transformation 
  • Provided training to over 100 GPs and Practice Nurses in the management of pdfchildren's asthma and wheeze in primary care over a series of training events, with general confidence in managing asthma and wheeze increasing from 48% pre event to 99% post event (based on the average percentage of delegates rating themselves as either fairly confident, confident or very confident)
