Vascular work programme

What is the programme and its aims?
The Cardiovascular Clinical Network is supporting NHS England’s Specialised Commissioning team to complete a stocktake of vascular service provision in the region. The stocktake has been undertaken by Public Health England.

The stocktake aims to review current provision and to provide strategic direction to provider organisations to inform the development of services for patients of the East Midlands in recognition of the ongoing national resource challenge.

Why is the programme required?
Two health communities in the region do not have the workforce stipulated by the Specialised Commissioning service specification for Specialised Vascular services and there are known national workforce challenges. The Clinical Network will support Specialised Commissioners to complete the stocktake and make clinical recommendations for action.

Who are the partners?

  • Acute provider trusts
  • NHS England specialised commissioning
  • Public Health England

How are we making a difference?
By identifying the unwarranted variation in service provision and making recommendations for a high quality safe vascular service across East Midlands

What’s next?
The stocktake has been undertaken by Public Health England in early 2016. A report outlining current service provision and highlighting the gaps, including recommendations to address the unwarranted variation in service will be produced.
